How to Pack Fragile Items Safely
Pro techniques for glass, electronics and heirlooms
Packing fragile items properly prevents damage, saves time on arrival, and reduces stress. Use the right materials and a consistent method.
Materials You’ll Need
- Double-wall boxes, small to medium sizes
- Bubble wrap and packing paper (not newspaper)
- Stretch wrap for bundles
- Foam corner protectors for mirrors/TVs
- Heavy-duty tape and a marker
Step-by-Step Method
- Line the base of each box with 5–7 cm of scrunched packing paper.
- Wrap each item individually, paying attention to handles and edges.
- Pack vertically (like plates on edge) to increase strength.
- Fill voids with paper; no internal movement should be felt.
- Label top/bottom; mark “FRAGILE” on multiple sides.
TVs and Monitors
Use original packaging where possible. Otherwise, use a TV box kit with foam and a rigid outer. Keep screens upright.
Mirrors and Glass
Apply an “X” of tape to the face, add corner guards, wrap with bubble, then cardboard. Store upright.
